Role Title: Bridge Keeper
Duration: 12 Months
Location: Shoeburyness
Rate: £13.45p/h PAYE

The Bridge Keeper role is critical to the safe and compliant operation of the Shoeburyness Range bridges, ensuring to local byelaws governing access and marine traffic movements. Continuous coverage of Potton and Havengore Bridges is required during tidal periods-typically from two hours before to two hours after high tide-seven days per week.

Key Capabilities/Knowledge

• Operate bridge controls in accordance with procedures to allow the safe passage of road, and marine traffic.
• Maintain continuous observation of rivers
• Respond promptly to vessel requests and schedule bridge movements appropriately.
• Ensure barriers, alarms, and warning systems are functioning before each operation.
• Work independently for extended periods during nights or low?traffic shifts.
• Maintain vigilance and situational awareness at all times.
• Complete handover reports at the start and end of each shift.
• Escalate issues to supervisors

Experience & Qualifications

• Ability to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and bank holidays.
• Strong situational awareness and focus during quiet or high?pressure periods.
• Clear and confident verbal communication (including radio use).
• Knowledge of maritime signals or VHF radio procedures
• Basic IT skills for logs and digital reporting.
• Comfortable working alone during certain shifts
