Coded Welder


Location: On-site Fabrication Shop in Birtley, Gateshead
Hours: 40 hours per week
Rate: Dependent on experience paid via CIS
Employment Type: Temporary to Permanent
We are looking for an experienced Coded Welder to join an established fabrication team. The successful candidate will work alongside the Fabrication & Welding Manager, welding stainless steel tanks, stainless steel pipework and mild steel frames.
The main requirement is strong experience in FCAW/Flux Core welding, with candidates ideally coded to ASME Section IX for Carbon Steel. Experience with GTAW/TIG welding of 316L stainless steel is also desirable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Weld and fabricate components from engineering and technical drawings.
  • Carry out welding to the required standards and specifications.
  • Prepare, grind and finish materials and completed products.
  • Complete quality checks on finished work.
  • Use a range of fabrication and welding equipment, including MIG, TIG, plasma cutters and hand tools.
  • Assist with general fabrication tasks as required.
  • Work efficiently to meet strict deadlines and agreed targets.
  • Maintain high standards of quality and comply with all safety, HSEQ and company procedures.

Requirements

  • Demonstrable experience in a similar welding/fabrication role.
  • Strong FCAW/Flux Core welding experience.
  • Previous ASME IX coding preferred, ideally for carbon steel.
  • Ability to read and work from engineering drawings.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
  • Good communication skills and a proactive attitude.
  • Flexibility to work overtime and weekends when required.
  • Eligible to work permanently in the UK.
  • Full UK driving licence.
