Manpower are currently seeking an interim Packaging Engineer, to work with our global FMCG client Unilever, renowned for brands such as Dove, Sure, Persil, and Simple, and become an integral part of their fast-paced FMCG environment.


The position is based at our client's scientific Research & Development facility in Port Sunlight Village, Wirral easily accessible by train and car. This is a full-time temporary role to run for 12 months (Maternity Cover), requiring 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Compensation for this role is competitive, paying between £48,008 - £50,000k per annum, pro rata, depending upon experience.

The role currently offers a mix of remote and onsite working, subject to adjustment based on business requirements.

JOB PURPOSE:
The Skin Care Packaging Engineer - Simple, will be responsible for the design and delivery of primary and secondary Packaging Innovations and Renovations, as well as Sustainability and Cost Savings initiatives for the brand. The candidate must be able to lead and manage multiple projects, working with R&D partners and cross-functional partners, including Brand, Planning, Procurement, Quality. The candidate must also be able to work closely with external Packaging suppliers. The ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical teams will be essential.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Develop, qualify and deliver packaging solutions for global Simple projects, meeting cost, network timing and consumer standards.
  • Design and create prototypes of packaging solutions for testing and validation.
  • Manage packaging projects from conception to implementation, ensuring timely delivery and cost-efficiency.
  • Conduct testing and analysis to ensure packaging meets quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to source and procure packaging materials at competitive prices.
  • Ensure packaging materials are sustainable and aligned with Unilever's commitment to sustainability.
  • Evaluate and recommend new packaging materials and technologies to improve product packaging efficiency and sustainability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand product requirements and develop packaging solutions that meet those needs.
  • Conduct research and stay updated on industry trends and advancements in packaging technology.
  • Develop and maintain packaging specifications and guidelines for consistency across products.
  • Communicate and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment and smooth execution of packaging projects.
  • Interact with the Global Cross Functional Development teams, Supply Chain, Procurement and 3P's to ensure seamless transition of Innovations.
  • Engage with Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Procurement colleagues, addressing any issues/concerns/service disruptions/supply shortages that may arise.
  • Be fully operational in shaping projects, ways of working and R&D operations, including InnoFlex.



WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED
Experiences, Skills & Qualifications

  • B.S. Degree in Packaging or Engineering with 2-4 years' experience in the Packaging field, preferably in Skin Care or Hair Care.
  • Broad packaging component knowledge and experience in rigid plastic assemblies, bottles, closures, and flexible packaging
  • Demonstrated understanding of package development process and engineering principles
  • Experience collaborating with external Packaging suppliers.
  • Strong technical, problem solving, communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate well with others.
