Smart Home Technician

Manpower Recruitment are working with a established company in Banbury, Oxfordshire and looking for a skilled and customer-focused Smart Home Technician to install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot smart home technology in residential properties.

The successful candidate will work with homeowners, developers, and other contractors to deliver reliable and user-friendly home automation systems. This may include smart lighting, heating controls, home entertainment, security systems, networking equipment, CCTV, access control, and voice-controlled devices.

You will be expected to complete work to a high standard while providing excellent customer service and explaining systems clearly to clients.

The role is full time, working Monday to Friday 8am-5pm and starting salary would be £38000pa.

**Please note a driving licence would be needed for the right candidate and would need to be over 25 years old (for insurance purpose) and no emore than 6 points.

Key responsibilities

• Install, configure, and commission smart home and home automation systems.
• Set up smart lighting, heating, security, audio-visual, and entertainment equipment.
• Install and configure Wi-Fi networks, routers, hubs, sensors, cameras, and connected devices.
• Integrate smart home products with platforms such as Control4, Crestron, Lutron, KNX, Savant, Alexa, Google Home, or Apple HomeKit.
• Test systems thoroughly to ensure they operate safely and reliably.
• Diagnose and resolve technical faults, connectivity issues, and equipment failures.
• Carry out maintenance, upgrades, repairs, and system replacements.
• Read technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and installation specifications.
• Liaise with customers to understand their requirements and provide suitable technical solutions.
• Demonstrate systems to customers and provide clear instructions on how to use them.
• Maintain accurate records of installations, repairs, equipment, and customer interactions.
• Work safely and professionally in occupied homes and construction environments.
• Coordinate with electricians, builders, AV specialists, network engineers, and other contractors where required.
• Travel to customer sites and complete work within agreed timescales.

About you

The ideal candidate will have practical experience installing or supporting smart home, electrical, electronic, audio-visual, security, networking, or building management systems.
You should be confident working independently, solving technical problems, and communicating with customers who may have different levels of technical knowledge.

Essential requirements

• Previous experience in a technical installation, engineering, electrical, AV, networking, security, or smart home role.
• Good understanding of wired and wireless networks, including routers, switches, Wi-Fi, and IP addresses.
• Ability to use hand tools and basic testing equipment safely.
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Good attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Willingness to travel to customer and project sites.
• Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and around electrical or construction environments where required.

Desirable qualifications and experience

• Experience with Control4, Crestron, Lutron, KNX, Savant, Rako, Philips Hue, Sonos, or similar systems.
• Knowledge of CCTV, intruder alarms, door access, intercoms, or home cinema systems.
• Electrical qualifications such as NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent.
• Networking qualifications such as CompTIA Network+, CCNA, or equivalent experience.
• Experience working with structured cabling, CAT5e, CAT6, fibre, or audio-visual cabling.
• CSCS, ECS, or relevant site-access certification.
• Experience working on new-build, high-end residential, or commercial projects.
