Location: Dudley, West Midlands
Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 per annum
Hours: 40 hours per week

About the Company

We're recruiting on behalf of a leading foundry and heavy engineering manufacturer in the Black Country that is undergoing an exciting period of growth. Following significant investment in new equipment, automation technology, and increased production capacity, the business has expanded to its largest workforce to date and continues to strengthen its position within the UK manufacturing sector. With a strong pipeline of work, modern facilities, and long-term growth plans, this is an excellent opportunity to join a forward-thinking employer that values skill, commitment, and career development.

The Opportunity

This is a newly created role introduced as part of the company's continued investment in manufacturing technology and engineering capability.

As a Castings Engineer (MAGMASOFT), you will be responsible for using simulation software to analyse and optimise mould filling, solidification, feeding, and casting performance across a range of iron and steel castings. Working closely with Engineering, Production, Pattern Shop, Melting and Sand teams, you'll play an important role in supporting new product introduction, improving yield, reducing defects, and driving continuous process improvements across the foundry.

The successful candidate will become the site's lead user of MAGMASOFT, supporting both existing production and future growth projects while helping to deliver high-quality castings in the most efficient and cost-effective way possible.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, run and interpret MAGMASOFT simulations for new and existing castings.
  • Analyse simulation results to identify potential casting defects and recommend practical solutions.
  • Design and optimise gating, feeding and risering systems to improve quality, yield and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Work closely with Pattern Shop and Engineering teams to implement simulation-led tooling and process improvements.
  • Support new product introductions through casting feasibility and manufacturability assessments.
  • Provide simulation-based technical feedback to internal stakeholders and customers where required.
  • Validate simulation predictions against production results and trial data.
  • Maintain and update MAGMASOFT material and process databases.
  • Produce technical reports and recommendations to support engineering and operational decision-making.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, yield improvement and scrap reduction.
  • Keep up to date with developments in MAGMASOFT software and casting simulation best practice.
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, quality and environmental procedures.

What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience using MAGMASOFT/MAGMA5 is essential.
  • Degree, HND or equivalent experience in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience within a foundry, casting or heavy engineering environment.
  • Knowledge of gating, feeding and risering system design.
  • Understanding of casting defect analysis and root-cause investigation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • CAD literacy, including software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD or Inventor.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present technical information clearly.
  • Methodical approach with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across Engineering, Production and Quality functions.

What's on Offer?

  • £40,000 - £45,000 salary depending on experience.
  • A brand-new position created through ongoing investment in manufacturing technology.
  • Opportunity to become the site's MAGMASOFT specialist.
  • Join a business experiencing significant growth and expansion.
  • Work on a wide variety of casting and engineering projects.
  • Long-term career prospects within a successful and growing manufacturer.
  • Supportive engineering environment with continued investment in people, equipment and technology.
